I have something precious to share with you. It’s Conscious Breathing.
In 2016 my life was rather complicated and I was under enormous emotional stress. One day, I was at home when my heart ‘short-circuited’, and I felt a terrible pounding in my chest. I called a doctor, who told me to be calm.
I was lying on the floor, my brain was starved of oxygen because I couldn’t breathe properly. My diaphragm was semi-inert. It had no more push than the filter of a cafetiere, pressed tight against the sludge of coffee grounds.
I was gripped by my emotional past, and negative thoughts were causing chemical and physical changes in my body. I survived and out of that experience I learned a lesson. I can’t rewrite the past, or control the future, but by harnessing my breath I can live fully in the present.
Breathing is instinctive, and automatic, so most of us don’t ever think about doing it deliberately. And that is the secret of my Conscious Breathing routine which I invite you to try.
